Big Black: Stand at Attica by Frank "Big Black" Smith
I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't know much about Attica or Frank "Big Black" Smith. But this novel gave me a very detailed and brief look into the world of Frank "Big Black" Smith and the atrocities that lead to the prison riot in 1971 which resulted in 43 deaths, of which 33 were convicts and ten were correctional officers and civilian employees. This graphic novel does not hold any thing back. So if you are expecting a sugar coated story with nice pictures this is not the graphic novel for you. An informative quick read, with great art work using limited colors to depict America's Prison system in the 1971. Five stars for Frank "Big Black" Smith and his determination to get justice for all those that lost their lives on the Stand at Attica.
